Have you seen this?

An article about how metformin stinks.

For the record, I'm virtually a metformin addict and never had too many problems from it (except for some gas early on). And I have never really noticed too bad of a smell but I have heard plenty of people complain about the smell. I get mine (750mg Extended Release) from Target pharmacy and I always wondered if the supplier you get it from might explain some of the smell... or maybe I just can't smell it the way others can for some reason.

Do you think met stinks? Do you think coating it would help?

Yes. I remember the short time I was on it, it smelled pretty nasty. And I had major issues with swallowing it because of the smell.
And I Just walked out and checked my dad's supply b/c he's on it, and his smells pretty horrible too. Mine came from Target and his comes from mail order at Medco I think it is...

I have had people say that to me. But I have never noticed it personally.

And even if it did stink, the fact that I could lose weight for the first time in my life would still make Met worth it. At the most I had one or two problems with Met disagreeing with me. And that was in the very beginning on my birthday when I ate a ton of fatty foods.

I think a lot of people expect Met to do the work for them, and stay on their crappy diets. Which leads to digestive upset.

I fully admit to being a Met WHOOR and I cannot wait to take it again.

I take (3)of the generic 500mg XR tablets and have gotten it from Rite Aid & Target. I never noticed a smell.
So Target makes a 750XR? I'm going to ask for that next time.

i haven't noticed any particularly strong smell at all. i've gotten mine from rite aid and medco. my mother in law never takes hers for her diabetes mainly because of the stomach discomfort. she's never complained about the smell before either.

I've gotten my met from oodles of different sources and some of it definitely smelled fishy and nasty. It wasn't so bad that I wouldn't take it, but it was enough for me to notice it. Between changing insurance several times over the past few years, and my insurance switching mail order services, I've tried it from 4 or 5 different places.

Okay, so I just picked up a script after not taking it for a 8 months and packing on 30 pounds but I digress, I thought they gave me the wrong med. The first thing I noticed was that it didn't smell (I used to hold my breath to get the pill out) then I noticed it had a coating on it. I called the pharmacist, she said she noticed it didn't smell as bad but didn't notice the coating and verified it was the right drug. *shrug*
We'll see, last time it wasn't nausea that got me. I'm only on 500mg until Fri then I bump up after that we'll see. I really don't want to take it but I ate better when I was taking it. It was that or be sick, I'm hoping to ingrain some better habits and then go off again. (And since I won't be doing IVF again, my best hope to achieve one of those mythical just- from-having-sex babies is the met, per my RE.)
Thanks for posting this, at least I can check this off my "I've gone crazy" list.

When I was on the generic version it stunk to high heaven ...enough to make me avoid taking it some days. When I switched to the branded Glumetza 1000 mg pills ..no smell ..and no side effects. I thought I was in heaven. Totally off topic ...and keep in mind I'm usually totally against them ..but have you thought about using a nipple shield on rightie for a bit??
